Bulandi is an Anil Kapoor film, a remake of Nattamai.In Bulundi, Anil Kapor portrays the protagonist, with Rekha and Ravina in supporting roles. Shakthi Kapoor plays the role of the villain. South Indian superstar Rajni Kanth plays the character Bala Takur, which he played in the Telugu version Pedarayudu as Paparayudu, which was well received in southern language.
Anil Kapoor plays the head of the village, the role of his younger brother was played by Sharath Kumar in Tamil and Mohan Babu in Telugu. The story revolves around the environment of a village during the Panchayati Raj rule. The hero's family brings justice to the village. This film shows a typical Tamil style of storyline, by K S Ravikumar.
The story revolves around Dada Thakur(Anil Kapoor) and his family. His family consists of his two younger brothers: Arjun (Anil Kapoor), Nakul(Harish), and his wife Lakshmi(Rekha). Dada Thakur is highly respected amogst society and his word is considered the law. After his father's(Rajnikanth) death, Dada Thakur takes over his father's throne. Also, Arjun gets married to a city girl Meena (Raveena Tandon). At first Meena isn't fond of her husband's "slavery" to his elder brother, but when she realizes that Dada Thakur helped her father in his business, Meena becomes a matured daughter-in-law. However, when Arjun is wrongly accused of raping a schoolteacher, everyone awaits for Dada Thakur's decision. Dada Thakur's decision shall affect everyone in the household.
